The GTA leaked hints of the upcoming remaster of the PS2 trilogy

According to several well-known insiders, remasters of the GTA PS2 trilogy may be on the way and it may be released soon.

Rumours of an upcoming GTA PS2 trilogy remake have been circulating for some time. Lots of pieces have been torn to pieces which indicate that some of the rumours may be holding some water and Rockstar could give his favourite trilogy games (GTA 3, Vice City and San Andreas) a brand new color coat.

The GTA PS2 trilogy is incredibly very popular. It was an original franchise not only for PlayStation 2 and Rockstar but also for gaming. It really cuts through the concept of an open-world 3D game, creating games like Saints Row and The Simpsons: Hit and Run. Still, there will be a few games soon that match the ambitions of all those early GTA games. This tradition continues to thrive, with GTA 5 selling 14 million copies as an exclusive success.

Rumours of the GTA PS2 trilogy began circulating on GTA forums (via GTABase) in January with key users hinting that it wouldn’t take long to see it. In January, user Mach1bud reported that a release would occur in about 90 days, meaning the project would probably appear in April or May. Rockstar's parent company, Tech-Two, has the next revenue call that will make it a prime time to announce. Rockstar has also recently started hiring for a position that requires someone to capture the gameplay for the trailers.

It’s not clear if this will be a remake from the ground-up or if it will be some polished version of the original game. Either way, Rockstar has an amount of manpower that authorizes them to work on something like this without losing any resources in a game like Grand Theft Auto 6 which is recognized to be developing. Take-Two Interactive also recently launched a fan project that reverses engineered GTA 3 and Vice City's source code. It was created for fans to port the game to other consoles like the Nintendo Switch, as well as add new modes. The takedown was incredibly fast and it could indicate that Rockstar is scrambling to roll out the brand-new version of the collection.

Given that Rockstar operates at a rather slow pace, fans will have to wait a long time for games, it would be nice to hear about new projects on the horizon. There is no word on when the game will be released but an original date will come later this year. Grand Theft Auto 3 will turn 20 this October, so it realizes that Rockstar will want to celebrate the favourite GTA title in a big way, especially after releasing the game on mobile on its 10th anniversary. It is being speculated that GTA 6 will also create a lot of ideas in favour of placing in Vice City.  As always, rumours about this GTA remake should be taken with a large amount of salt, as Rockstar has yet to announce some concrete.
